The National Center for the Advancement of Translational Science (NCATS), one of NIH's 27 institutes and centers, was established in December 2011. Since its inception, NCTS has managed an extensive funding portfolio, including the NIH's largest single-grant program, the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA).
The staff at NCCATS work hard to meet the enormous challenges of rare disease research so that new treatments can reach people faster. They focus on common situations in the disease and develop solutions to reduce, eliminate, or bypass bottlenecks in the transformation process. NCATS' vision is to deliver more treatment to all, faster.
NCATS staff are experts in many different areas related to translational research and science policy, from small molecules to human subject conservation. NCATS offers a range of grant programs and in-kind support services, as well as tools and other resources for preclinical and clinical researchers designed to help researchers translate basic scientific knowledge into interventions to improve human health.
NCTS is divided into departments and offices, with different staff guiding the Centre's translational research activities.
They are: Office of the Director, Clinical Innovation Division, Division of Extramural Activities, Preclinical Innovation Division, Rare Disease Research and Innovation Division, Office of Administration and Management, Office of Drug Development Partnership Program, Office of Policy, Communication and Education, Office of Special Initiatives, Office of Strategic Alliances, Office of Translational Medicine.
