The Crop Utilization Research Center was established in 1984 to improve the utilization of corn, soybeans and other crops by developing advanced technologies and high-value products, and to create new agricultural enterprises. The center is a multidisciplinary research, development, and technology transfer program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University.
CCUR explores new food, feed, and non-food industrial uses of agricultural materials and focuses on problem-oriented research aimed at expanding crop utilization in the Midwest. CCUR provides cost-effective research solutions to industry clients through the use of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, as well as staff expertise. Customers can test new products and processes without interrupting their own full-scale production systems, enabling companies to launch new business or expand existing ones.
The task of the center is to identify, coordinate, promote. Promote mission-oriented, interdisciplinary research (basic and applied), development, technology transfer, and commercialization activities that will increase and improve the utilization of Midwest crops and create new agricultural utilization enterprises in Iowa. The goal is to develop new healthy food and feed products, as well as environmentally friendly processing technologies, to improve the efficient use of agricultural products and products. Replace petroleum derivatives with agricultural resource derivatives. Transfer new agricultural use technologies to the private sector and encourage their successful commercialization to stimulate economic development. Provide rapid response research and services required by domestic and multinational businesses and entrepreneurs, as well as incubation facilities to develop new businesses and grow existing ones.
CCUR focuses on food, feed, biofuels and bio-based product technologies to expand the demand for agricultural materials. Affiliated faculty from 15 departments in five different colleges at Iowa State University have earned an international reputation for pioneering a variety of new products and developing new processes from agricultural resources.
