The Institute on Aging (ASI), established in 1972 and renamed the Institute on Aging in 2011, is the site of a collaborative initiative between the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the David B. Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics. Its mission is to coordinate and promote research, training and outreach related to aging at Syracuse University. ASI is home to the Center for Policy Research on Aging (CAPS), which promotes, supports, and disseminates interdisciplinary and policy-related research centered on the demography and economics of aging.
With more than 65 faculty members from 17 departments, ASI offers multidisciplinary research and education related to virtually all disciplines on campus. A dynamic network of 65 faculty members from 17 departments has made significant theoretical and empirical contributions to the field of aging. Research ranges from product design to age-based public policy and well-being in later life, including population ageing, vital health, home care, geriatric services and more.
ASI trains graduate students through courses and grants and provides professional development for faculty through seminars, conferences and summer seminars. Through ASI's education and training programs, students and faculty are able to broaden their networks, build their skill sets, and advance their careers.
