The Institute of Materials Chemistry and Engineering (IMCE) was established on April 1, 2003 by the merger of the Institute of Advanced Materials and the Institute of Basic Organic Chemistry. Since their inception, they have been leading materials chemistry by conducting chemistry and chemical research work, maintaining their original mission of producing high-quality results. IMCE is also expected to play the following roles: advanced and interdisciplinary research COE in the field of materials or device science and technology, promoting cooperation and contribution with chemistry and other industries, and contributing to life and green science or technological innovation.
IMCE consists of five divisions, of which four (Basic Organic Chemistry, Applied Molecular Chemistry, Integrated Materials, Advanced Device Materials) correspond to the hierarchy of materials, as well as a completely new international department of soft materials. IMCE has professors, associate professors, and assistant professors (about 50 in total), postdoctoral fellows, and technical staff who have published more than 2,000 recommended original research papers and reviews in fiscal years 2011-2020, with a total of more than 34,000 citations.
IMCE has been dedicated to promoting inter-university activities in chemistry or materials science and technology. IMCE is allied with four research institutes; The Multidisciplinary Institute for Advanced Materials (Tohoku University), the Institute of Chemical Life Sciences, the Innovation Institute (Tokyo Institute of Technology), the Institute of Science and Industry (Osaka University), as well as the "Joint Research Center for Materials and Device Networks" and the "Dynamic Alliance for Open Innovation for People, Environment, and Materials" play a central role. IMCE is also a member of the Consortium for Integrated Research in Chemical Science and Technology, and other contributors include the Institute of Catalysis (Hokkaido University), the Center for Materials Science Research (Nagoya University), and the Institute of Chemistry (Kyoto University).
IMCE is very keen to strengthen and expand research collaborations with research institutions and industry around the world, as well as to recruit competent researchers.
